Harvest Time around the world is a time of joy, thanks
and celebration. Here in Corrales, a historic agricultural New Mexican village
on the Rio Grande, that means a Fiesta!
The village-wide Corrales Harvest Festival will be
held Sept. 30 & Oct. 1, 2017. As part of the celebration, the Historic Old San Ysidro Church will
hold the “Heart of Corrales Fiesta.”
We are located at 966 Old Church Road – the last stop (and one of the most fun)
on the hayride.
Many CHS activities are happening inside and outside the Old Church this
year.
All ages are welcome at our Crafts Table where you’ll find coloring pages and materials for
making Ojos de Dios, paper flowers, red chili ornaments, and Mr. & Mrs.
Zucchini Heads. Take your project home to be put in a place of honor.
Walk the Walk at the “Pie Walk” – new to the Heart
of Corrales Fiesta this year. Win pies and other treats made from harvest
favorites… apples, blueberries, peaches, pumpkin, zucchini and more. It’s just
$1 to walk the numbered Pie Walk. When the music stops, a number gets called –
if it’s the number you’re standing on, you win the prize! All proceeds go to the
preservation of the Old Church.
Enter the “Create San Ysidro” Contest. For local
kids! Draw San Ysidro or create him in 2D or 3D. The more creative the better!
Make your work of art at the Old Church, or at home, and bring it in on
Saturday morning. Entries will be displayed in the Old Church so all Fiesta
visitors can view the artwork… and vote for the People's Choice award winner. CHS Archives will
host a “Small Ag Tool ID Contest”
for kids. See how many you can
identify! There will also be agricultural posters and family posters to
peruse.
Photo Ops Abound!
The Old Church is considered one of the most authentic and well-maintained
adobe churches in New Mexico. It’s a beautiful backdrop for a favorite photo
memory. Take a snap in a “farmer portrait” stand. Or climb onboard a classic tractor
– bring a kerchief or borrow one of ours.
You won’t go home hungry! Sample fresh and delicious
fruits and vegetables at the Tastes of
the Harvest Table, and think about how much we all owe our farmers and
growers. Curtis Losack Farms will be
selling treats to eat and take home. Grab a snack at a food truck. And wet your whistle with bottled water supplied by a
local Boy Scouts troop.
CHS Fine Arts Show Preview: Juried artworks
that will be at CHS’ 29th Annual Fine Arts Show & Sale will be
on display to pique your interest. The show takes place inside the Old Church
during Balloon Fiesta.
CHS docents will be selling T-shirts, Gifts and Souvenirs. Pick up a little something to
remember the day. All proceeds go to the preservation of the Old Church.
Next, head across the street to Casa San Ysidro where you’ll find New Mexican artisans and vendors,
music, blacksmithing, horno baking, and more.
Ride the hay wagons to the end of the line and come
see us!
