Paid HR Internship (15 - 24 hrs/week)
Role Summary: The Human Resources Intern performs various administrative tasks and supports our HR department’s daily activities. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills she or he may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional setting.

Principal Accountabilities: (essential job functions – including, but not limited to):

1.       Assist in screening applications and resumes.

2.       Assist in scheduling interviews.

3.       Ensures new-hire packets are prepared and contain all necessary paperwork and/or documentation for new-hires.

4.       Assist with new hire procedures as needed: including organizing and administering employee orientation, creating new employee files, administering employee handbooks and ensuring all necessary paperwork is properly filled.

5.       Ensures confidentiality and accuracy for each personnel record.

6.       Assemble benefits files and maintain filing as needed.

7.       Assists with recruitment tasks as needed.

8.       Assist with other HR related projects as needed.

9.       Serves as Receptionist as needed.

10.   Assist in coordinating employee recognition/appreciation programs.

11.   Assist with the day-to-day efficient operation of the HR office.

12.   Complies with all applicable LifeROOTS policies and procedures.

13.   Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.  Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.

14.   Responsible for participation in the company’s quality improvement program and ensures that all department-applicable quality improvement requirements are fulfilled.

15.   Responsible for participation in the company’s financial management and ensures that all department applicable fiscal responsibilities are fulfilled.

16.   Responsible for participation in the company’s Health and Safety program and ensures that all department-applicable safety requirements are fulfilled.

17.   Performs other related duties as assigned by the Human Resource Director.

Essential Skills and Experience:

1.          Currently enrolled in a degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in Human Resources, Non-Profit Management or related field.

2.          Experience as a Staff Assistant or similar junior HR role.

3.          Basic knowledge of local, State, and Federal regulations pertaining to human resources.

4.          Experience with MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

5.          Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

6.          Able to interact effectively with staff, participants and the public in a professional and courteous manner.          

7.          Student Member of SHRM a plus.   


Conditions of Employment:

1.          Drug Screening, fingerprints and background check.

2.          Must have a valid and current driver's license with good driving record and must have current auto insurance as required by applicable state law.

3.          Occasionally operates a company vehicle or a personal vehicle while on company business.

4.          Must be at least 18 years of age.


Physical Challenges:

1.          Regular and consistent use of keyboard and mouse.

2.          Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position without hazard to themselves or others. The work is sedentary

Salary Range:  
$12,480 to $12,480
