Career Discovery Coordinator

Principal Accountabilities: (essential job functions):

1.       Responsible for Career Discovery Program. Provides individualized classroom and community experience that promote career development for individuals.

2.       Develops, assists, implements, modifies and evaluates the Career Discovery curriculum.

3.       Communicates with IDT teams, Supervisors, Service Coordinators and Case Managers.

4.       Develops effective relationships with employer contacts and stakeholders.

5.       Input information to the Marketing Director as to programs stated above.

6.       Maintains a minimum census of six in each program.

7.       Recruit and train volunteers.

8.       Maintains a current schedule of activities for the Career Discovery Program that are work related, community based and appealing to the interest of the individuals.

9.       Maintains a current curriculum for the Career Discovery Program, including a diverse selection of educational tools.

10.   Communicates regularly with Job Developers and Service Coordinators regarding individuals’ literacy needs and potential job opportunities.

11.   Schedules and conducts tours of employment and educational sites based on choices made by individuals.

12.   Attends ISP/IDT and IEP meetings, as needed, to participate in the development of employment and/or career discovery related goals.

13.   Submits all documentation, reports and other required paperwork accurately and timely.

14.   Ensures consistent compliance with all DOH, DDSD and Medicaid.

15.   Coordinates the use of a van with Day Habilitation Program, as appropriate.

16.   Maintains conduct that is professional and ethical at all times.  Representing LifeROOTS and the Career Discovery Program in a positive manner to service individuals and the public.

17.   Complies with all applicable LifeROOTS policies and procedures.

18.   Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.  Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.

19.   Responsible for participation in the company’s quality improvement program and ensures that all department-applicable quality improvement requirements are fulfilled.

20.   Responsible for participation in the company’s financial management and ensures that all department-applicable fiscal responsibilities are fulfilled.

21.   Responsible for participation in the company’s Health and Safety program and ensure that all department-applicable safety requirements are fulfilled.

22.   Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Community Services.

Requirements
Essential Skills and Experience:

1.     HS Diploma or GED required

2.     BA/BS and/or Teaching Certificate (Educational Background) preferred.

3.     Two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities.

4.     Knowledge of person center principles and values.

5.     Two years of experience teaching adults with barriers (i.e. physical, mental development, disabilities) in course development.

6.     Participation in recent continuing education programs related to Community Services, per licensing    requirements.

Conditions of Employment:

1.       Fingerprints and background check, and drug screening.

2.       Must have a valid and current driver's license with good driving record and must have current auto insurance as required by applicable state law.

3.       Occasionally operates a company vehicle or a personal vehicle while on company business.

4.       Must be at least 18 years of age.
